Cristy Page Named CEO of UNC Health, Dean of UNC School of Medicine

The move unifies system and academic leadership to guide expansion through financial and regulatory headwinds.

Effective Nov. 24, Dr. Cristy Page will also serve as vice chancellor for medical affairs at UNC-Chapel Hill.
She has served in the roles on an interim basis since July and succeeds Dr. Wesley Burks, who now chairs the NC Children’s enterprise.
Page is the first woman to lead the system and previously headed UNC Health Enterprises while serving as chief academic officer.
UNC Health is pursuing growth that includes a $2 billion partnership with Duke Health to build the state’s first freestanding children’s hospital, with groundbreaking planned for 2027, and a $700 million bid to build in Asheville.
UNC lists a footprint of 20 hospitals and 56,000 employees, though some reports cite 16 hospitals, and Page confronts pressures including possible Medicaid cuts, HHS scrutiny of medical education curricula and uncertainty over NIH research funding.
