Cris Abrego Elected Chairman of the Television Academy

Abrego, the first Latino chair, will begin his two-year term on January 1, 2024, with a focus on innovating the television business model for sustainability and equity.

  • Cris Abrego, veteran TV executive and CEO of Hyphenate Media Group, has been elected as the new Chairman of the Television Academy, succeeding Frank Scherma.
  • Abrego's two-year term as chairman will begin on January 1, 2024.
  • Other officers elected by the Board of Governors include Sharon Lieblein as vice chair, Rickey Minor as second vice chair, Allison Binder as secretary, and Ann Leslie Uzdavinis as treasurer.
  • The Television Academy has also added the title of CEO to its presidential position, currently occupied by Maury McIntyre, whose contract has been renewed through 2026.
  • Abrego, who will be the Television Academy’s first Latino chair, has expressed interest in innovating the television business model for sustainability and equity.
