Overview

• Seventeen people were killed when a wing of the unauthorised Ramabai Apartment in Virar East collapsed just after midnight on August 27.
• Police have arrested builder Nittal Gopinath Sane and four members of the late landowner Parshuram Dalvi’s family, with all five set to appear before the Vasai Sessions Court as Crime Branch Unit 3 leads the case.
• Virar police say VVCMC issued May notices to the builder and plot owners to conduct a structural audit and ask residents to vacate, but no follow-up occurred; both wings were built without approvals.
