Crime Branch Kashmir Files Chargesheets in Livestock and Job Fraud Cases

The filings move both matters to Srinagar courts for judicial scrutiny and trial after multi-month investigations by the Economic Offences Wing.

Overview

  • Investigators submitted a chargesheet on December 27 in FIR No. 17/2023 against Muneer Ahmad Kataria in a livestock-payment case before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar.
  • In that case, a cattle trader was induced to supply cows and sheep on a supposed government welfare quota, with cheques totaling about Rs 30 lakh allegedly issued and then dishonoured.
  • A separate chargesheet was filed on December 28 in FIR No. 49/2022 against Reyaz Ahmad Taploo in a large-scale job fraud before the Court of City Judge (Sub Registrar), Srinagar.
  • Probes found the job scam allegedly ran through a sham outfit called SAI NGO Consultancy, which promised security guard posts in hospitals and banks, collected lakhs from Tangmarg residents, and issued forged appointment letters and uniform items.
  • Both cases cite Sections 420, 467, 468 and 471 of the Ranbir Penal Code, with the EOW stating it has gathered sufficient evidence and urging the public to verify recruitment claims and welfare scheme offers.
