Crime Branch Arrests Two Suspected Cattle Smugglers After Pre-Dawn Nuh Shootout

Officers link the case to a recent surge in armed encounters across southern Haryana.

Overview

  • The Punhana and Gurugram crime-branch teams confronted the suspects on the Indana–Bichor road around 2 to 2:30 a.m., where one man surrendered and the other fired at police.
  • Police identified the men as Mohammad Abid of Bichor and Mohammad Jahid of Punhana, describing them as suspected cattle smugglers active in the area.
  • Abid, wanted in nearly a dozen cases including attempted murder, illegal arms and cattle smuggling, was shot in the right leg and is under treatment at Nalhar Government Medical College.
  • Investigators seized a country-made pistol, empty cartridges and a motorcycle from the scene, and reported that a bullet struck the bulletproof jacket of Assistant Sub-Inspector Suraj.
  • An FIR was registered at Bichor police station citing attempted murder, obstructing a public servant, BNS provisions and the Arms Act, with Abid to be formally arrested after doctors clear him.
