Overview

  • The Wolf Fire, first reported around 3 p.m. Sunday near Wolfskill Truck Trail and Old Banning Idyllwild Road in Riverside County, has consumed at least 1,165 acres with no containment.
  • Mandatory evacuation orders cover areas north of Poppet Flat Divide Truck Trail and south of Interstate 10 as the Wolf Fire approaches Highway 243 toward Idyllwild.
  • The Lake Fire, which erupted June 28 at Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area, is now roughly 10 percent contained after burning 478 acres while crews defend structures and secure its perimeter.
  • More than 100 visitors at Silverwood Lake were evacuated by park rangers and volunteer boaters when the Lake Fire surged through the recreation area.
  • Fire authorities warn that low humidity and winds gusting up to 30 mph today could challenge containment efforts on both blazes, and investigations into their causes remain ongoing.
