Creator of 'The Wire' calls for leniency in death of show's star

David Simon, creator of The Wire, argues Carlos Macci should not be incarcerated for his role in Michael K. Williams' death.
Williams died of an overdose in September 2021, and Macci was charged with selling him the fatal drugs.
Simon says the 71-year-old Macci has struggled with addiction and illiteracy his whole life.
Williams was outspoken against mass incarceration, and Simon believes he would want leniency for Macci.
Macci pleaded guilty to drug conspiracy charges, with sentencing scheduled this month.
