Córdoba Train Station Officially Renamed 'Córdoba - Julio Anguita'

ADIF unveiled provisional signage pending definitive installation by year-end.

Overview

  • The new name was presented at a public ceremony in the Plaza de las Tres Culturas where family members revealed the signage to sustained applause from hundreds of attendees.
  • ADIF president Pedro Marco de la Peña described the naming as a tribute to a leading figure in Spanish politics and said station screens across the network already display the new name.
  • The agency noted that administrative steps remain before permanent rotulación is installed, with full station signage expected to be in place by the end of the year.
  • The change stems from a proposal by the Colectivo Prometeo, backed by the Grupo Municipal de Hacemos Córdoba and approved with broad support by the city Pleno in February 2024, after which the national government authorized the request.
  • Julio Anguita was Córdoba’s mayor from 1979 to 1986 and later led Izquierda Unida, and his family thanked institutions and citizens for the recognition, recalling that pandemic restrictions delayed an earlier public homage.
