Crashes Shut Princes and Monash Freeways in Melbourne

Traffic has been rerouted through suburban detours after two major crashes disrupted key commuter routes.

Overview

  • A truck collided with the median on the Monash Freeway at Huntingdale Road around 2:20 pm, toppling a pole and forcing closure of all outbound lanes between Warrigal and Forster roads.
  • The truck driver was taken to hospital in critical condition and emergency services remain on scene conducting safety clearances before reopening the Monash Freeway.
  • Earlier at 7:40 am, a six-vehicle collision on the Princes Freeway at Laverton closed all citybound lanes, with traffic diverted through the emergency lane under Incident Response Service direction.
  • Commuters have faced delays exceeding 50 minutes as congestion built back nearly 5 km toward Forsyth Road on the Princes and extended toward Toorak Road on the Monash.
  • Transport authorities have established suburban detours via Hoppers Crossing, Truganina, Laverton North, Princes Highway and Ferntree Gully Road and recommended the Werribee train line while signal teams adjust traffic lights.
