Officials report prolonged closures during repairs, with inquiries opened into defects, medical events and a suspected arson.

  • In Essen, unknown perpetrators set a fire under a sleeping 61-year-old at a bus stop; the man was unharmed, threats were found at the scene, and a homicide unit is seeking witnesses.
  • A 35-year-old driver in Berlin-Marzahn died in hospital after suffering a medical emergency at the wheel and crashing into tram infrastructure; BVG assisted firefighters with the vehicle recovery.
  • In central Düsseldorf, a Rheinbahn tram collided with an ambulance en route to an emergency, injuring the crew and prompting a police investigation into the circumstances.
  • Separate crashes included a fatal B96 collision near Hoyerswerda involving a transporter that struck a tree line and a multi-vehicle rear-end crash on the A7 near Dietmannsried that injured six and required a rescue helicopter.
