Crack Forces Single-Track Slowdowns on Oldenburg’s Hunte Rail Bridge for 3–4 Weeks

A maintenance find of a crack in a counterweight girder has reduced movements to 20 km/h with daily inspections.

Overview

  • Regio-S-Bahn lines RS3 and RS30 between Bremen, Oldenburg, Wilhelmshaven and Bad Zwischenahn run on altered timetables with delays and some cancellations.
  • Regionalexpress RE18 is restricted, and long-distance trains between Bremen and Norddeich take about ten minutes longer, according to Deutsche Bahn.
  • More than 100 trains usually cross the roughly 70-year-old bascule bridge each day, now limited to one track under safety controls.
  • River traffic on the Hunte is also throttled to alternating passages because one leaf of the double-wing bridge cannot be opened.
  • Operators advise passengers to check travel updates in advance and allow extra time as the cause of the damage remains under investigation.
