CPTM Workers Stage Indefinite Strike, Halting Service on Three Lines

Overview

• The strike began at 00:01 on Tuesday, August 4, and continued into its second day with Lines 11 and 12 operating only on shortened segments and Line 13 plus the Expresso Aeroporto suspended.
• The union demands a written guarantee of job preservation after the July concession to Trivia Trens, saying roughly 500 frontline workers face dismissal and disputing the state's published staff reallocation figures.
• The Labor Court (TRT-2) ordered minimum staffing of 80% at peak hours and 60% off-peak and set a daily R$400,000 fine for noncompliance while a conciliation hearing and further negotiations were scheduled on August 5.
• State and city contingency measures include 128 Paese buses on affected corridors, earlier metro openings and extra trains, suspended municipal vehicle rodízio and reinforced policing as traffic reports showed slowdowns from about 724 km to as much as 2,125 km.
• The stoppage is focused on safety and job-security concerns after early operational failures by the private operator, including a carriage fire, and it has escalated debate over recent privatization moves ahead of the elections.
