Overview

  • The recall covers BowFlex 552 and 1090 models sold from 2004 through April 2024 at retailers including Best Buy, Costco, Dick’s Sporting Goods and online outlets.
  • Consumers filed over 300 reports of weight plates dislodging during workouts, resulting in 111 injuries such as concussions, broken toes and abrasions.
  • Johnson Health Tech Trading, handling the recall after BowFlex Inc.’s March 2024 bankruptcy, is contacting all known owners with instructions and prepaid labels to return handles and bases.
  • Owners are advised to stop using the adjustable dumbbells immediately and submit requests for refunds or replacement units directly to Johnson Health Tech Trading.
  • Some customers have criticized the process for requiring them to self-dispose heavy plates and for offering refund values they consider inadequate.
