CPSC Issues Urgent Warning on Fake Labubu Toys as UK Seizes Thousands

Officials urge authentication checks to protect children.

Fake Labubus are known as "Lafufus"

Overview

  • The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said knockoff “Lafufu” dolls and keychains pose a serious risk of choking and death to young children and urged consumers to stop using them.
  • Agency investigators identified multiple shipments from China and requested seizure of thousands of units for violating small-parts rules, with enforcement continuing at U.S. ports.
  • UK Trading Standards reported more than 2,000 fake dolls seized from 13 retailers in North Tyneside in a month, with additional confiscations in Greater Manchester, Humberside, North Somerset and Scotland.
  • Officials advise checking for a holographic Pop Mart sticker, a scannable QR code linking to Pop Mart, a UV stamp on one foot on newer versions, and nine teeth, plus CE/UKCA marks and choking-hazard labels.
  • Deep discounts, overly bright colors and poor build quality are red flags, as the frenzy for authentic collectibles and high resale prices has fueled widespread counterfeits.
