CPS Charges 11 Over Turkey-Facing Gambling, Including Ex-Entain CEO Kenny Alexander

A Westminster court hearing is set for 6 October following an HMRC investigation described as complex and international.

Overview

  • Prosecutors authorised cases covering seven offences that include bribery, conspiracy to defraud, fraudulent trading, cheating the public revenue, evasion of income tax, acting as a director while undischarged bankrupt, and perverting the course of justice.
  • The alleged conduct concerns the provision of gambling services in Turkey between 2011 and 2018, with ten defendants charged for that period and one charged over conduct related to the investigation.
  • Those charged include former GVC/Entain leaders Kenny Alexander, ex-chair Lee Feldman, ex-finance director Richard Cooper, ex-legal director Robert Hoskin, and former executive James Humberstone, with Hoskin charged with perverting the course of justice in February 2024.
  • The first hearing is listed for 6 October at Westminster Magistrates' Court, and the CPS has said it will not comment further while proceedings are active.
  • Entain said it has not been charged and noted a December 2023 deferred prosecution agreement that resolved the HMRC investigation as it concerned the company, subject to ongoing compliance.
