Overview
- The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA-G) filed a petition on Wednesday, June 17 seeking an increase of Re0.8173 (about Rs0.82) per unit under the monthly Fuel Cost Adjustment for May 2026.
- The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has scheduled a public hearing on June 30 to review CPPA-G’s fuel-cost data and calculations and then issue a binding decision.
- CPPA-G’s submission shows total generation of roughly 12,638 GWh in May with net delivery of about 12,335 GWh and an average fuel cost near Rs9.25 per unit versus the Rs8.4315 reference cost, producing the requested excess charge.
- CPPA-G and news reports estimate that if NEPRA approves the Rs0.82/unit adjustment consumers nationwide would face an additional burden of about Rs12 billion and the change will be reflected in bills only after formal notification.
