Cpl. Matthew 'Ty' Snook Identified as Trooper Killed in Delaware DMV Attack as Gunman Also Dies

A state trooper was killed along with the suspected gunman Tuesday at a motor vehicle agency near Wilmington, authorities said.

  • Cpl. Matthew “Ty” Snook, 34, a 10-year Delaware State Police veteran and Delaware native, was named as the fallen trooper; he is survived by his wife and their one-year-old daughter.
  • A 44-year-old man entered the New Castle DMV as a customer, approached the reception desk, shot the trooper, and the trooper pushed a DMV employee to safety before being shot again.
  • A New Castle County police officer confronted and shot the assailant, who was taken to a hospital and later died, and officials said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
