Overview
- Cpl. Matthew “Ty” Snook, 34, a 10-year Delaware State Police veteran and Delaware native, was named as the fallen trooper; he is survived by his wife and their one-year-old daughter.
- A 44-year-old man entered the New Castle DMV as a customer, approached the reception desk, shot the trooper, and the trooper pushed a DMV employee to safety before being shot again.
- A New Castle County police officer confronted and shot the assailant, who was taken to a hospital and later died, and officials said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
- Officials reported additional minor injuries: a second trooper with a non–gunshot-related injury, a 40-year-old woman treated for minor injuries, and a 35-year-old woman evaluated for shortness of breath.
- Delaware DOJ prosecutors and FBI personnel are assisting state police in the investigation; DMV offices were closed statewide Tuesday, with all but the shooting site scheduled to reopen Monday.
