Overview

• Shortly after 5 a.m. in Englewood, an SUV accelerated toward officers investigating railcar thefts and struck one officer, prompting police to fire; no one was hit by gunfire.
• The SUV then hit a marked squad car before stopping, and the driver was taken into custody and hospitalized in good condition.
• Police said multiple firearms were recovered from the SUV at the scene near 58th and Shields.
• A separate van fled and was found near the 7100 block of South Yale, where it rammed two squad cars; a 30-year-old passenger who exited was struck by the van and hospitalized in critical condition, and the vehicle was later found abandoned near 75th and State.
• Three officers were evaluated at hospitals, including two from the traffic stop, all reported in good condition or under observation.
