• Faroe, a pit bull terrier, was spotted Saturday afternoon peering from a drainpipe near the Harrison Street Bridge on the South Branch.
• A boater called police, and the CPD Marine Unit—already patrolling nearby—responded to the scene.
• Owner Brandon Hilliard saw an alert on a community public-safety app, connected with officers through his sister, and boarded the police boat.
• A Marine Unit diver entered the water and used one of Faroe’s squeaky toys to calm her before guiding her out safely.
• Hilliard, who adopted Faroe last year, said she is doing fine and thanked the Good Samaritan, his sister, and the Chicago Police Department.
