CPD Issues Alerts on Downtown Necklace Thefts, Northwest Side Store Holdups

Police request tips to Area Three or Grand Central detectives; no arrests reported.

  • Chicago police issued community warnings after eight strong‑arm robberies targeting gold necklaces in Grant Park, the Loop and the New Eastside between Aug. 1 and Aug. 29.
  • Victims were targeted while walking alone on park property, with offenders using physical force to snatch chains.
  • Suspects in the downtown series were described as one to four men or women ages 20 to 40, with at least one male seen in a black T‑shirt, blue jeans and white gym shoes.
  • A separate alert covers four late‑night armed robberies of businesses on the Northwest Side on Aug. 15, Aug. 17 and twice on Aug. 30 in North Park and Norwood Park East.
