Overview
- In Mumbai, a special CBI court convicted ex-PSI Sanjay Khedekar and ex-head constable Raghunath Kolekar for custodial assault, wrongful confinement and causing hurt to extort confession, sentencing them to seven years.
- The court acquitted both of murder due to conflicting medical opinions on cause of death, accepted that assault occurred in custody, and imposed fines with a portion directed as compensation to the victim’s mother.
- The prison terms were suspended until November 7 to allow appeals, and the family’s counsel said they will seek enhanced punishment.
- In the separate Madhya Pradesh case, the CBI informed the Supreme Court that the two accused officers were arrested on September 27 in Indore and October 5 in Shivpuri, with both now lodged in Indore jail.
- The Supreme Court criticized the delay, sought explanations from the CBI and the state on non-compliance with its May 15 arrest order, asked for details of departmental action, directed limited phone access for a jailed eyewitness, and listed the matter for November 6.
