Court Sends Chaitanya Baghel to 13-Day EOW Custody After Anticipatory Bail Denied

The remand gives state investigators time to probe alleged money trails flagged in recent ED filings.

Overview

  • The Chhattisgarh High Court rejected anticipatory bail for Chaitanya Baghel, son of former chief minister Bhupesh Baghel.
  • Following the denial, the state Economic Offences Wing arrested him and a Raipur special court remanded him to police custody until October 6.
  • Investigators plan to question him on financial transactions, digital records, and links to bureaucratic and political contacts, according to EOW sources.
  • The single-judge bench also reserved its order on the challenge to the Enforcement Directorate’s July 18 arrest under the PMLA.
  • On September 15, the ED filed a roughly 7,000-page supplementary chargesheet alleging Baghel acted as the syndicate’s controller and handled over ₹1,000 crore in proceeds.
