Court Reimposes PMO Ban on Netanyahu Aide, Adds 60-Day Travel Restriction

The judge said Yonatan Urich’s refusal to acknowledge wrongdoing signals a risk to the Qatar-Gate investigation.

Overview

  • The Lod-Central District Court on Sept. 18 overturned a Sept. 11 magistrate ruling that would have let Yonatan Urich return to the Prime Minister’s Office.
  • Judge Amit Michles cited Urich’s denial of any wrongdoing as a reason to fear he could repeat the alleged conduct if reinstated.
  • The court kept Urich out of the Prime Minister’s Office for another 60 days and barred him from leaving Israel for 60 days.
  • Israel Police appealed the lower court decision, arguing that restoring Urich’s access to sensitive PMO information could jeopardize the active probe.
  • Urich was arrested earlier this year on suspicion of breach of trust and leaking confidential material to Bild, and he has faced house arrest, no-contact orders and travel restrictions since April.
