Overview
- On July 17 a 26-year-old Deutsche Bahn security employee fell from a regional train traveling about 120 km/h and was seriously injured, and he is now reported to be out of life-threatening danger.
- The public prosecutor says a drunken 36-year-old passenger hit and kicked the security employee and that a door gave way during the scuffle, prompting an investigation for bodily harm.
- The local court said it reviewed the train’s surveillance video, found doubts about the prosecutor’s account and noted only limited blows on camera, so it refused a detention order and kept the suspect at liberty.
- The defense, represented by Joachim Lederle, offers a different reading of the footage and contends the security employee initiated force and that the accused was injured, including two broken ribs reported after police custody.
