A court has ruled that former Edinburgh Academy teacher John Brownlee inflicted 'sadistic cruelty' on pupils, including BBC presenter Nicky Campbell, between 1967 and 1991.
Brownlee, now 89 and unfit for trial due to dementia, was found to have committed over 30 assaults and cruel treatment at an examination of facts hearing.
Victims recounted harrowing experiences of physical and emotional abuse, with some as young as eight years old.
The Edinburgh Academy Survivors Group hailed the court's verdict as justice served, highlighting the lasting damage caused by Brownlee's actions.
Current rector of the school, Barry Welsh, apologized to all those affected by historical abuse and reaffirmed the school's commitment to addressing past wrongs.
