Overview

• On August 4 a First Additional District and Sessions Court in Hubballi rejected Kondikoppa’s bail plea and ordered his personal appearance on August 6 for trial scheduling.
• The CID charge sheet ruled out any communal or “love jihad” motive and concluded that Kondikoppa killed Hiremath after she refused his marriage proposal.
• Investigators found that Kondikoppa purchased a knife three days before the April 18, 2024 murder and disguised himself with a red cap and black mask on the P.C. Jabin College campus.
• He faces formal charges under IPC sections 302 for murder, 341 for wrongful restraint and 506 for criminal intimidation.
• Neha Hiremath’s father welcomed the bail rejection and activists in Hubballi held a rally demanding the death penalty for the accused.
