Court Declines Stay as ‘120 Bahadur’ Sets First Release Across India’s Defence Theatres for Nov. 21

The government told the Punjab and Haryana High Court it will decide within two days on a Section 6 challenge to the film’s certification.

Overview

  • Excel Entertainment and Trigger Happy Studios will open the film on Nov. 21 across more than 800 defence cinema halls for personnel and families, alongside a global release.
  • Select paid previews are scheduled for Nov. 18 to mark the 63rd anniversary of the 1962 Battle of Rezang La.
  • PictureTime, in partnership with GenSync Brat Media, is using a mobile cinema network to reach remote bases, noting only about 30% of the veteran-and-family audience currently has access to defence cinemas.
  • The High Court disposed of a PIL from the Sanyukt Ahir Regiment Morcha seeking a title change and stay, declining interim relief after the Centre pledged a prompt review under the Cinematograph Act’s Section 6.
  • The Union government and CBFC said an Examination Committee, aided by a retired brigadier from the portrayed regiment, vetted the film, as petitioners continue to allege distortion of collective valour.
