Court Authorizes Auction of Former MLA’s Sports Academy and Panvel Land in ₹512 Crore Bank Scam

The court ordered immediate auctions of two attached assets so depositors can recoup funds lost in the cooperative bank’s ₹512 crore fraud.

Overview

  • Special MP and MLA Court and a Special PMLA Court made attachments of the Karnala Sports Academy plot in Navi Mumbai and a Panvel taluka land parcel absolute.
  • All parties, including Vivekanand Patil, raised no objections, prompting the official liquidator to begin the auction process without delay.
  • The Economic Offence Wing first registered a cheating and forgery case against Patil and 76 others in February 2020, triggering an Enforcement Directorate money laundering probe.
  • Probe agencies had earlier attached a total of 87 properties under the MPID Act and 76 under the PMLA, including ancestral and commercial holdings.
  • Proceeds from the upcoming auctions are earmarked to settle the bank’s ₹512 crore liabilities and fully compensate defrauded depositors.
