Overview

  • A jury at the Old Bailey delivered the verdict on July 14 following a four-month retrial into the death of baby Victoria after her parents went into hiding.
  • Victoria’s decomposed body was discovered in a Lidl shopping bag inside a disused shed near Brighton two days after Marten and Gordon were arrested in February 2023.
  • Family court documents released during the trial reveal Mark Gordon served 22 years in a Florida prison for armed sexual battery, kidnapping and related offences and that he subjected Constance Marten to serious domestic violence.
  • From her cell in HMP Bronzefield, Marten has publicly lambasted her prosecutors, comparing them to “Dementors” and accusing them of condescending treatment during the Old Bailey hearings.
  • Already convicted in 2024 of child cruelty, perverting the course of justice and concealing a birth, the couple now face combined sentencing on September 15.
