Country star Jelly Roll testified before the U.S. Senate Banking Committee, urging lawmakers to pass the FEND Off Fentanyl Act, a bipartisan bill aimed at combating the supply and distribution of fentanyl in the U.S.
Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason DeFord, shared his personal experiences with drug addiction and dealing, stating that he was once part of the problem but now wants to be part of the solution.
The FEND Off Fentanyl Act, which passed the Senate last July but has yet to clear the House, aims to disrupt the flow of opioids from China and Mexico by imposing financial sanctions on drug traffickers.
Jelly Roll highlighted the devastating impact of the fentanyl crisis, noting that approximately 190 people die from drug overdoses every day in the U.S., with a 72% chance that the overdose is fentanyl-related.
Jelly Roll's testimony was part of a Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee hearing titled 'Stopping the Flow of Fentanyl: Public Awareness and Legislative Solutions.'
