Councils Roll Out Winter Household Support Fund Payments as £100–£120 Aid Arrives

Support is set locally under national funding, so councils differ on amounts, eligibility and delivery.

Overview

  • Doncaster and York have confirmed £100 payments for struggling households, with funds landing on December 15 to help with energy, food and other essentials.
  • Stockton-on-Tees will automatically send two £60 vouchers to Council Tax Reduction households, with working-age recipients paid in late November and pensioner households due in the first two weeks of January.
  • The Stockton vouchers can be exchanged for cash at PayPoint outlets and must be redeemed by February 28, 2026.
  • Residents in Stockton who do not receive Council Tax Reduction can apply for a one-off £120 discretionary payment, subject to net weekly income caps of £425 for a single person, £525 for a couple and £625 for a family.
  • Middlesbrough has opened applications offering £100 to households not on benefits and £70 per child for eligible benefit-claiming families, while the £742 million national fund must be spent or committed by March 31, 2026.
