Council to Start Safety Work on Salisbury’s Controversial Mini-Roundabout Kerb After Audit

Planned modifications aim to address the steep pavement gradient that has caused repeated vehicle damage

Overview

  • A post-installation safety audit completed August 13 found the footpath slope beneath the railway bridge was too steep for drivers
  • Wiltshire Council will reduce the kerb’s gradient, install a corner bollard and add deterrent paving during August 18–26
  • Since October’s installation of the 13-inch kerb, eight compensation claims have been filed after motorists reported thousands of pounds in repair costs
  • The kerb has drawn thousands of social media followers, spawned a Google Maps “tourist” listing and a 4,200-member Facebook group
  • Council officials maintain the raised kerb is vital for pedestrian safety given rising footfall from the new Fisherton car park
