Council of State Upholds Trapani Deduction as Serie C Status in Jeopardy

The ruling leaves summer sanctions intact, with a 22 January TFN hearing to weigh missed payments.

Overview

  • Italy’s Council of State rejected Trapani’s appeal against the first 8 of 15 deducted points imposed for payments made using tax credits later deemed false.
  • The Tribunale Federale Nazionale will rule on 22 January on failures to meet 16 December payroll, tax and social contribution deadlines, with further sanctions possible up to exclusion from Serie C.
  • Trapani sit 17th on 19 points, and potential new penalties could drop the club to last place; exclusion would annul their results and reshape the Group C standings.
  • The Shark basketball team has already been excluded by FIP and LBA, several footballers have departed (Carriero, Ciotti, Grandolfo, Negro, Segberg), and the mayor plans to revoke Valerio Antonini’s honorary citizenship.
  • Owner Antonini says he will keep challenging decisions and is prepared to take appeals to European courts.
