Overview

  • On August 8 at about 6:30 p.m., a cougar attacked a mountain biker in the Alpine Capone area of Brohm Ridge near Garibaldi Provincial Park.
  • The animal made contact and pursued the cyclist for roughly 20 minutes before he scattered rocks to drive it off.
  • The rider escaped with minor injuries and reported the incident to conservation officers the following morning.
  • The BC Conservation Officer Service has officers on site gathering evidence and is working with local authorities and outdoor groups to share details of the attack.
  • Officials have not confirmed whether this incident is connected to earlier cougar encounters this summer and continue urging precautions such as travelling in groups, making noise, leashing pets and carrying bear spray.
