Costco to Enforce Executive-Only Early Shopping Hours Starting Sept. 1

The retailer frames the new access window as a reward for its top-tier members, who generate a large share of sales.

  • A grace period that began June 30 ends Aug. 31, with employees set to strictly enforce Executive-only entry during the early window beginning in September.
  • Executive members can enter up to an hour early on weekdays and Sundays, and 30 minutes early on Saturdays, with many warehouses posting a 9–10 a.m. local window that runs to 9:30 a.m. on Saturdays.
  • Costco lists Executive membership at $130 per year versus $65 for Gold Star or Business tiers, which are not eligible for the early access window.
  • Reports note pushback from some workers over staffing and opening challenges on Reddit and from non-Executive members on Facebook who said they would cancel memberships.
  • The early access perk launched alongside a $10 monthly credit for Executive members on eligible same-day or Instacart orders over $150.
