Costco Reinstates Exclusive Early-Morning Access for Executive Members

Costco is targeting its most profitable customers with a reserved 9 a.m. hour for executive members alongside extended Saturday shopping.

Costco is reviving exclusive early warehouse access as part of expanded benefits for premium members.
Customers line up to enter during the grand opening of a Costco Wholesale store in Kyle, Texas, on Thursday, March 30, 2023.

Overview

  • Starting June 30, executive members can shop from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on weekdays and Sundays and from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Saturdays at participating U.S. warehouses.
  • All U.S. Costco locations will now close at 7 p.m. on Saturdays, extending shopping by one hour for all members.
  • Executive members pay $130 annually for the tier—up from $120 after last year’s price increase—and account for 73% of Costco’s sales despite making up less than half of its 79.6 million memberships.
  • The benefit aligns Costco with Sam’s Club, which has long offered similar premium-tier early-access hours to its higher-paying customers.
  • Costco clarified that regular Gold Star members may begin shopping at 10 a.m. Monday through Friday and Sunday and at 9:30 a.m. on Saturdays.
