Costco Partners With Novo Nordisk to Sell Ozempic and Wegovy for $499 a Month

Experts question the access gains given widespread insurance exclusions plus a $499 monthly cost.

Overview

  • Starting Friday, Costco pharmacies in 600+ locations offer four-week supplies of the injectable pens to members who pay out of pocket and have a valid prescription through the Costco Member Prescription Program.
  • Executive Members and Costco Citibank Visa cardholders receive an additional 2% discount on qualifying purchases, according to Novo Nordisk.
  • Novo Nordisk says the same $499 self-pay price is already available via its website and through CVS and Walmart, part of a push to provide real, FDA-approved products through trusted channels.
  • For insured members, the price varies by plan; Novo Nordisk says patients with coverage pay about $25 on average, but many plans still exclude weight-loss indications and GoodRx reports roughly one in five commercially insured people lack coverage for at least one brand-name GLP-1.
  • Ozempic is FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes and Wegovy for weight management; both contain semaglutide, and the company cites concerns over compounded or counterfeit versions as a reason for expanding retail access.
