Costco Opens New 152,000‑Square‑Foot Warehouse in Vallejo

Anchoring a 51‑acre Fairview Plaza redevelopment, the store is expected to expand shopping options for Vallejo residents.

Overview

  • The new warehouse, which opened Friday, replaces the 1989 store and drew thousands of shoppers with some people camping up to two nights and lines that wrapped the building.
  • At 152,000 square feet the store offers more parking, a 32‑pump gas station, electric‑vehicle chargers and in‑store services such as a pharmacy, optical, food court, tire center and hearing‑aid clinic.
  • Opening‑day demand concentrated around limited one‑per‑member liquor drops and special local products, which produced long in‑store lines and focused crowds at the liquor and specialty food sections.
  • Costco serves as the anchor of the still‑under‑construction Fairview Plaza, where the developer and city completed road widening and traffic signals and other tenants such as Raising Cane’s, Wells Fargo and medical offices are planned.
  • The project caps more than a decade of planning that included a 2020 Safeway lawsuit over environmental review that was dismissed and settled, and Costco says it will open 14 more stores in the U.S. and Canada this year with none of those planned for California.
