Costco Kicks Off FY2026 With Sales and Earnings Beat as Digital Jumps 20%

Record holiday demand and expanding membership underpinned the strong quarter despite a lawsuit over newly imposed import tariffs.

Overview

  • Total revenue reached $67.31 billion with net sales of $65.98 billion and earnings of $4.50 per share, topping LSEG estimates for both revenue and EPS.
  • Comparable sales rose 6.4% companywide, including 5.9% in the U.S., 6.5% in Canada and 8.8% in other international markets, while digitally enabled sales increased 20.5%.
  • Membership fees were $1.33 billion and cardholders grew more than 5% to nearly 146 million as Costco operated 923 warehouses worldwide and ended the quarter with about $16.22 billion in cash.
  • Executives reported record seasonal volumes, including roughly 358,000 whole pizzas on Halloween, about 4.5 million pies in the three days before Thanksgiving and more than $250 million in U.S. e-commerce non-food orders on Black Friday.
  • Costco has sued the federal government to recover tariffs paid under recent orders and to halt further collections pending a Supreme Court ruling, introducing a policy risk to monitor as shares dipped Friday and analysts adjusted price targets.
