Authorities describe a sudden surge that swept the victim from the beach, prompting a rapid multi-agency search.

Overview

  • Officials identified the victim as 43-year-old Caroline Moses of Corvallis, who was swept into the ocean near the mouth of Siletz Bay on Sunday afternoon.
  • North Lincoln Fire & Rescue said a call came in around 3:30 p.m., and crews arrived within minutes to launch two rescue jet skis as the U.S. Coast Guard deployed two lifeboats and a helicopter.
  • Lincoln City police supported the effort from shore with a drone, but Moses was later found deceased on a beach nearly four miles south of where she was swept away.
  • Oregon State Police opened an investigation, and North Lincoln Fire & Rescue offered condolences to Moses’ family.
