Corus to Shut Nickelodeon, Disney XD and Other Kids Channels in Canada This Month

Corus confirmed it will close Nickelodeon, Disney XD, Disney JR, ABC Spark and Quebec’s La Chaîne Disney before month’s end, with only the main Disney Channel remaining in Canada.
Nickelodeon shows such as SpongeBob SquarePants will exit Canadian cable and be available on Paramount+, while Disney JR and Disney XD programming will move to Disney+.
The move removes many children’s staples from traditional cable and satellite, pushing families toward paid streaming subscriptions to maintain access.
Corus reports more than $1 billion in debt and a $55.9 million quarterly loss, with CEO John Gossling warning of a roughly 20% year-over-year revenue decline this quarter.
Corus will continue to operate other networks including Teletoon, Showcase, History and Adult Swim, marking a sharp retreat from its long-held role in kids’ television.
