Corrientes Teacher Still Missing as Prosecutors Probe Possible Femicide

Forensic tests and ongoing searches will determine whether seized evidence leads to formal homicide charges.

Overview

  • Nancy Estela Godoy, a 52-year-old substitute director at Rural School No. 626 in Malezal, has been missing since early October after arriving at the school for work.
  • The Fiscalía of Esquina has opened a criminal investigation under the hypothesis of a possible femicide while stressing that search operations will continue exhaustively with police and security forces.
  • Five people are detained in the case: Ireneo Zarza, Dionisio Sandoval and Nahuel Rojas are imputated for femicide; Rosa Leguizamón is accused of simple homicide; Ezequiel Bordón is accused of false testimony.
  • Investigators seized burned clothing found in Zarza’s dwelling and ordered technical and genetic pericial tests to establish whether the items relate to Godoy; results are still pending.
  • Prosecutors say all forensic and communications evidence must be evaluated together before drawing conclusions, they note prison-perpetua is the likely penalty if femicide is proven, and victim-assistance channels remain open for the family.
