Correios Open Targeted Voluntary Exit Plan for About 7,000 Workers

The program is meant to cut personnel costs tied to roughly 1,000 slated closures to help the postal operator return to surplus by 2027.

Overview

  • Correios opened the new voluntary severance plan on Thursday, Aug. 20, with applications running through Sept. 30 and aimed at employees assigned to units that will be closed.
  • The eligible pool is about 7,000 workers linked to roughly 1,000 service points and the company says it will not set a fixed participation target for this round.
  • Financial incentives range from R$24,400 to R$459,000, are paid in a single tax-advantaged installment with no Income Tax or FGTS withholding, and amounts are calculated by tenure, age and contract rules.
  • Enrollment does not guarantee dismissal because applications will be verified and approved based on plan rules, operational needs and available resources, and employees can withdraw before the dismissal date.
  • The PDV is part of a wider restructuring to reverse multiyear losses — including deficits of R$2.5 billion in 2024 and R$8.5 billion in 2025 — and may be followed by asset sales, private partnerships and further cost cuts as the company seeks a 2027 surplus.
