Overview
- Deputy State Coroner Joan Baptie ruled on Friday that Revelle Balmain is dead and found evidence that Select Companions operators Jane King and Zoran Stenojevic were either involved in her disappearance or knew who was responsible.
- Baptie said King and Stenojevic gave testimony that was inconsistent and contained untruths but she concluded the available evidence did not meet the threshold to refer them for criminal charges.
- Balmain vanished on November 5, 1994 after a client booking in Kingsford; her bag, shoes, diary, cards and keys were found scattered on local streets the next day.
- The coroner criticised decades of investigative focus on one client, Gavin Samer, saying he had the opportunity to kill Balmain but no motive was proved and other lines of inquiry were overlooked.
- The magistrate referred the matter back to the NSW Police Unsolved Homicide Unit so detectives can pursue fresh leads, re-examine evidence and seek witnesses while the $1 million reward announced in 2021 remains available to encourage new information.
