Overview
- The Santa Cruz County Coroner’s Office officially identified the body recovered on Dec. 27 south of Davenport as 55-year-old Erica Fox.
- Fox disappeared on Dec. 21 during a group swim off Lovers Point in Pacific Grove after witnesses reported a shark sighting, including a report of a shark breaching with what appeared to be a body.
- Cal Fire CZU crews used a rope hoist to recover the remains from a remote beach roughly 30 miles north of where Fox went missing.
- Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, the cause of death has not been released, and an autopsy had not yet been conducted as of Monday.
- A multiagency search covered about 84 square nautical miles over roughly 15 hours before being suspended, and family members later noted Fox was found in her wetsuit with a shark-deterrent anklet.
