Cornyn Gains Establishment Boost as New Poll Shows Texas GOP Primary Deadlocked

A pro-Cornyn poll placing the race in a tie highlights the impact of recent establishment support.

Overview

  • Cornyn unveiled endorsements from 15 former Texas Republican members of Congress, including Tom DeLay, Kevin Brady and Mac Thornberry.
  • A One Nation survey conducted Sept. 20–22 by Ragnar Research found Cornyn and Paxton tied 39%–39% head-to-head, with 21% undecided.
  • In a hypothetical three-way, the poll put Cornyn at 32%, Paxton at 31% and Rep. Wesley Hunt at 17%, within the survey’s 3.6-point margin of error.
  • One Nation says it has spent $4.3 million on ads since its August poll that showed Cornyn trailing Paxton by 8 points, asserting the gap has closed.
  • National GOP groups, including the NRSC and Senate Leadership Fund, have urged consolidation behind Cornyn, while both campaigns court President Donald Trump’s endorsement.
