Overview
- A fire started by a vehicle accident near Montséret on Thursday spread quickly into the Corbières massif and burned roughly 100 hectares before crews gained the upper hand.
- Authorities mobilized several hundred firefighters, about 60 vehicles and around ten aircraft including Canadairs, Dash 8s and Air Tractors to slow and contain the blaze.
- Officials reported the fire was “désormais fixé” late Thursday evening and said roughly 120 firefighters stayed overnight to monitor and wet remaining hot spots.
- About 20 homes were protected, no injuries or structural damage were reported, and temporary shelter-in-place orders and road closures were imposed and later eased.
- The incident has revived trauma from the August 2025 megafire in the same massif and comes during a busy 2026 fire season, prompting continued patrols, preventive deployments and close local surveillance.
