Overview

  • From the end of October, Copenhagen City Hall will reserve 40% of its wedding slots exclusively for city residents.
  • In 2024 the hall conducted about 8,000 ceremonies, around 5,400 of which involved non-resident couples.
  • Non-residents can secure a Danish marriage certificate within five working days from the Agency of Family Law for 2,100 kroner with just a valid passport.
  • The number of foreign weddings at City Hall has almost doubled over the past five years under Denmark’s liberal marriage framework.
  • Private registrars remain available and companies like Getting Married in Denmark helped more than 2,600 international couples last year.
