Copenhagen Airport Shuts After Large Drone Sightings, Flights Diverted

Authorities project a halt until about 1 a.m. local time pending a probe into how the drones reached the airport area.

  • Navair ordered an immediate airspace closure around 20:30 local time after drones were observed in and around the airport.
  • Danish police reported sightings of two to three large drones near the airfield.
  • Eurocontrol advised that arrivals and departures were suspended with an estimated end time of 01:00 on 23 September local time.
  • Flightradar24 reported that at least 35 inbound flights had diverted by 22:05 local time, with reroutes to Oslo, Stockholm, Berlin, Malmö, Göteborg, Billund and Aarhus.
  • Officials have not said whether the incursions were deliberate, and investigators are examining whether the drones breached the airport perimeter.
