A Denver jury will determine if Lindell’s unsubstantiated election-rigging accusations qualify as protected political speech or constitute defamation that derailed Coomer’s career.

Overview

  • During his opening testimony, Coomer described Lindell’s 2021 treason accusations as false claims that have upended his personal life and 15-year career in election technology.
  • Lindell’s defense argues he genuinely believed the allegations based on conservative podcaster Joe Oltmann’s claims and that his statements are protected under the First Amendment.
  • Defense counsel said Lindell was provoked after Coomer served him with the lawsuit at a public rally and by his own ban from Newsmax once it settled a lawsuit with Coomer.
  • Coomer’s suit seeks damages for defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and civil conspiracy against Lindell, MyPillow Inc., and FrankSpeech LLC.
  • The jury will hear Lindell’s testimony later this week and a projected appearance by Oltmann as the trial, which began June 3, continues through next week in Denver federal court.
